examine the origin and the growth of communalism in India

Some factors responsible for the growth of communalism in India are as follows:

1.The British rulers in order to divide  people of various communities of India and spread the feeling of distrust among them had adopted the policy of divide and rule. The seeds of communalism in India was first sown by the British.

2.Different communal organisations are found in India which tried to create a rift among the people of various religious communities by promoting negative views about the opposite religious communities.

3. Political parties in order to fulfil their interests uses one religious community against the other and religious disturbances rises.

4.When governments fail to curb the communal riots .It also results in spreading the communalism.
