C.V.Raman is a famous Indian physicist. He was born on 7 November 1888 in Madras. His contribution to physics and consequently, bringing fame to India is one that is note-worthy. He contributed to the growth of science in our country. He worked in the field of light scattering. This discovery is known as 'Raman Effect'.  He was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1930 for this discovery that when light passes through a transparent material, some of the light changes in wavelength. He was also awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics. He was elected 'Fellow of the Royal Society' in 1924. In 1954 India honoured him with its highest civilian award Bharat Ratna. He breathed his last on 21 November 1970.
