difference between stipules and axillary bud?

The buds present in between the angle formed by the stem and the leaf petiole are called axillary buds. These buds may develop into branches or flowers as the case may be.
A pair of leaf like lateral appendages present at the base of the leaf petiole is called stipule.

Stipules are small leaf like structures present at the leaf base whereas axillary bud is a former part of the shoot apical meristem that grows into branch or a flower.
