Diagrammatically represent the transfer of energy in a food chain.

Dear student,
Transfer of energy in tropic levels follows the Ten percent law of energy transfer, It states that, " when energy is passed in an ecosystem from one trophic level to the next, only ten percent of the energy will be passed on."

10 % of energy is transferred to the next tropic level from the previous tropic level as represented below:
Light energy is absorbed by primary producers and the the energy is transferred to next level.
Example of primary producers: green plants, grass, herbs
Example of primary consumers: grasshopper, mouse
Example of secondary consumer: frog, birds
Example of tertiary consumers: snakes, crocodiles
Example of quaternary consumers: hawks, humans

At every tropic level to next Heat is lost during the transfer of energy
