Suppose P is a point on the axial position of the dipole.
Length of dipole=2a
Suppose point P is at the distance 'r' from the center of the dipole.
We know that potential at a point is given as,
V=14π0.Qr
So, potential at P due to q is,
Vq=14π0.q(a+r)
potential at P due to –q is,
v-q=14π0.-q(r-a)
Total potential at P is
V=Vq+V-q=14π0.q(a+r)+14π0.-q(r-a)=q4π0[1(a+r)+1(a-r)]V=q4π0.2a(a2-r2)
