Communilism is one of the major challenges to democracy in our country. Is secular constitution enough to deal with this threat. Write your opinion briefly?

Popular mindset through unbiased education, hatred free politics ,true religious teachings can prove to be very effective in curbing this meance.Following points will help you in understanding this:

Communalism is based on the idea that religion is the principal basis of social community. All the followers of one religion belong to one community and their basic interests are the same. It is interpreted negatively when a  group following a particular religion sees its interest as mutually hostile and antagonistic with that of another religious group.  Thus, it severs as a threat of the harmony and secular spirit of a country and is a major hindrance to democracy. This is because:

a.  Religious differences have rather have become a  source of conflict and tension in a society , when represented by political parties it may allow  minority religious groups to ventilate their grievances and voice their dissent but Political parties often tend to exploit issues based on  religion for narrow political gains to be used as vote bank during elections.

b. The common form of communalism  practised everyday is based on certain customarily beliefs,  religious prejudices, stereotypes of religions communities,  belief of supremacy of one religion over the other religions. This belief of superiority of one religion becomes the root cause of conflict in the society threatening the secular edifice of a country.

c. Political Parties have used religious preaching, sacred symbols to divide the people, The best example is that of Rath Yatra in 1992 for Construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya which was intended to mobilize a particular community against another.

d. We may give example of communal clashes between Hindus and Muslims from time to time are more politically motivated where political parties have pitted one group against another for electoral gains.

Such incidents raise serious misgivings about the secular status of our country and hampers the progress of our country.
