A preposition links nouns, pronouns and phrases to other words in a sentence. The word or phrase that the preposition introduces is called the object of the preposition.
A preposition usually indicates the temporal, spatial or logical relationship of its object to the rest of the sentence as in the following examples:

this definition is partially correct but as i hav been taught ......... i have been told that prepositions are the words indicating place , position , manner , time like at , in, on etc. where at works as a preposition of time as well as a preposition of place .
eg.
1. we will meet at the mall tomorrow ( at working as a preposition of place )
2. we will be starting the play at 10:00 am .(at working as a preposition of time
