Apomixis resembles asexual reproduction, as well as mimics sexual reproduction in plants. Explain with the help of a suitable example.

Dear Student,
Apomixis is a form of asexual reproduction in which seeds are produced. However, apomictic seeds are not the result of fertilization. In case of apomixis, female gametophyte (embryo sac) in ovule is formed without reductional division. Diploid egg is formed in embryo sac which develops into embryo without fertilization. In this way apomictic seeds are produced which involve no meiosis and fertilization. For example: species of Asteraceae. It also includes poly embryony. Thus, apomixis is a form of asexual reproduction mimicking sexual reproduction.
