(a) Tyndall effect is observed in the colloids. The size of suspension particles is larger than the size of particles in true solutions. Thus, when a beam of light is passed through a suspension, the particles scatter light and the path of light gets illuminated.  

(b)  the Tyndall effect is caused due to the colloidal solution in the air as small dust particles are suspended these minute particles are called colloids if a beam of light passes the particles easily scatter the beam of light 

another example, 

the light rays of a car's headlight will not be visible in a foggy area because the particles in the fog scatter the beam of light.
