Answer the questions based on the following extract from the poem the road not taken

I shall be telling this with a sigh
somewhere ages and ages hence
two roads diverged in a wood and I --
I took the one less travelled by
and that has made all the difference

a) what is the poet's tone in the above lines?
b) what is is the theme of the poem?
c) what does the last line signify?

Dear Student,

'The Road Not Taken' is one of the most popular poems by Robert Frost.
a)  The tone of the speaker in the poem is nostalgic. He is looking back at the time he had to make a choice and he chose the path which was less travelled by the others.
b) The main theme of the poem is that in their life, people are confronted with choices and their one decision can define their future. In the poem, the speaker comes across a fork in the road and he must make a choice as to which road to take. Finally, he chose the path which was the least travelled and that made all the difference.
c) In the poem 'The Road Not Taken', the two roads symbolise the choices one has to make in their life. The speaker says that the path that we don't choose in our life is the 'road not taken' and when we grow older, we look back at that path with nostalgia. The path that we ultimately chose, helps in deciding our future.
