Answer 7) Mahatma Gandhi found in salt a powerful symbol that could unite nation because 1)it was considered as the most essential item of food and was consumed by rich and poor alike.
2)  The tax on salt and the government monopoly over its production revealed the most oppressive face of British rule. 
3) Making salt was an easy process that can be made by common  persons also at cheap prices without big machines. Even poor person can make salt for themselves. And, by adding tax on it Britishers were making it expensive.
Because of this salt was considered as a uniting symbol.
