River Saraswati has been mentioned in various mythological texts because the early Vedic civilization developed along the banks of the river Saraswati. Hence, the various mythological texts pay homage to this river by mentioning it.
There was no such relevence in today's world in terms of scientific view because it is beleived that this river dried some 4,000 years ago, and was forgotten.But last year 2016 in Haryana it's route was traced and a board set up to bring it back to life.
