Profit made by selling one pen = Rs 2
Loss incurred by selling one pencil = 50 paise = Rs 0 5
In a given month, loss incurred = Rs 10
Number of pens sold during this period = 45
Let the number of pencils sold be x
Thus, according to the question:
(45 × 2) + (x × -0 5) = -10
90 + (-0 5x) = -10
90 + 10 = 0 5x
100 ÷ 0 5 = x
x = 200
Number of pencils sold = 200
