A DNA has 5.6 Kilo base pairs. If no. of cytosine molecule in this gene is 1000 then what will be the no. of thymine molecule in this gene ?
(1) 9200
(2) 4600
(3) 3600
(4) 1800
explain

Dear student, Double stranded DNA has 5.2 kilo base pairs. so it will have 5200 base pairs or 10400 bases. Out of these 10400 bases, 1000 are cytosine. According to Chargaff’s rule in double stranded DNA, number of Thymine will be equal to Adenine. number of Guanine wil be equal to Cytosine C+G= 1000+1000= 2000 so A+T= 10400-2000 = 8400. thus no of thymine bases will be 8400/ 2= 4200. Hope this information helps,Regards.
