A current through a horizontal power line flows in east to west direction. What is the direction of magnetic field line at a point directly below it?How to do this.I cant understand the text book solution plsss someone help!!

The direction of Magnetic field around a straight current carrying conductor wire can be find out by Right hand thumb rule. point thumb of your right hand in the direction of current and curl the fingers. In the direction fingers curled is the direction of magnetic field around conductor. See the following figure:

At the point P magnetic field is inwards and at point P' it is outward.

It is right hand thumb rule but I dont know how we get the answer

listen its easy.We know that the current is following in the east to west direction as given in the question, right. so, we have to use thr right tumb rule to get the answer. According to the right tumb rule, we know that, the tumd points to the direction of the magnetic force, idex-field and middle finger-current.so, to get the answer just draw the diagram and adjust your ifngers. You willl get. HOPE THIS HELPED YOU!!!

You can refer to this answer too.......

The direction of magnetic field is given by Right hand thumb rule.

Imagine that you are holding a current-carrying straight conductor in your right hand such that the thumb points towardsthe direction of current. Then your fingers will wrap around the conductor in the direction of the field lines of the magnetic field, as shown in Fig.

The direction of the magnetic field at the point directly below it is towards you (outward from the plane of the paper
