24 copies of a dictionary arranged in arranged on a shelf occupy 57.6 cm length of space. If a shelf is 0.8 m long, can 40 copies of the dictionary be arranged on it?
Dear student
Length of 24 dictionaries=57.6 cm
Using unitary method
Length of 1 dictionary= 57.6/24=2.4 cm
Length of 40 dictionaries= 2.4 x 40=96cm=96/100 m=0.96 m
because 1m= 100 cm so 1 cm=1/100 m
As 0.96m>0.8m
so 0.8 m shelf will not be enough to accomodate 40 copies of dictionary.
