1.Is  visible movement a defined characteristics of life?

2.Why are molecular movement needed for life?

3.Why are no specific organs are needed for taking in food ,exchange of gases for removal of wastages in single-celled organisms?

4.How do living things get their food ?

5.How is food carried along the digestive tract in aur body?

6.How many pairs of salivary gland are located in our body?and where they are located?

Answer 1)

Movement is a characteristic of life, but its not the only characteristic which confirms life. Non living things like vehicles show visible movement while living things like plants are stationary. So., just by visible movement we cannot define life.

Answer 3)

No specific organs are needed by the unicellular organisms as they are single cells performing all the functions necessary for life. They do not have complex structures and division of labor to perform the body functions.

Answer 4)

Living things get food by various means.

Autotrophs: Some of the living organisms are autotrophic, i.e., they make their own food from simple substances. Example : plants.

Heterotrophs: Some of the living organisms are heterotrophic, i.e., they take up food prepared by autotrophs. Example: humans.

Saprophytes: Some living organisms take up food from dead and decaying matter. Example Fungi.

1.Question-

Answer- Cellular metabolism is occurring in the cells of the organisms and this makes them living, there are other criteria as well such as breathing, heart beat in animals and photosynthesis in plants.

2. Molecular movements are those movements which we cannot observe from naked eyes but play an important role in all the life processes. For example the break down of water molecule during the process of photosynthesis, release of energy from glucose molecule, movement of solute molecules to regulates stomatal closure &  opening. All these are the examples of molecular movement which regulate the important functions like respiration, photosynthesis etc.

3. As cell is the basic unit of life, and a combination of cells form tissue and coming together of tissues form organ. But a single-celled organism cannot posses all these. And so, taking of food is done by phagocytosis, exchange of gases by diffusion, removal of waste with the help of food vacuole.

                                                 or,

Because they are single-celled organisms and are not so complex as compared to human beings and other vertebrates and invertebrates(Some). All the load is bore by a single-cell and right from intake of food to the expellation of food, the single cell functions completely and which is also applicable for exchange of gases, removal of wastes, etc.

4. All living things need food to live. Plants manufacture their own food by the process of photosynthesis. Animals, on the other hand, depend on plants and other animals for their food.

5.

6. Salivary Gland:-

(1) Parotid Gland

(2) Submandibular Gland

(3) Sublingual Gland
