State the general form of Raoult?s law and give a mathematical expression for the same. A
solution containing 15 g of non-volatile solute dissolved in 45 g of water has a vapour
pressure of 1400 Pa at 298 K. Further, 9 g of water is then added to the solution and the new

Read the passage given below and answer the following questions: (3)
A potential difference which develops between the electrode and the electrolyte is called
electrode potential. When the concentrations of all the species involved in a half-cell is unity
then the electrode potential is known as standard electrode potential. Standard electrode
potentials are used for various applications. In a galvanic cell, the half-cell in whichoxidation takes place is called anode and it has a negative potential with respect to the
solution. The other half-cell in which reduction takes place is called cathode and it has a
positive potential with respect to the solution. The cell potential is the difference between
the electrode potentials (reduction potentials) of the cathode and anode.
(a) What can be inferred from the negative electrode potential of the oxidation half-cell Zn
to Zn2+
?
(b) Write the cell representation of the reaction given below:
Cu(s) + 2Ag+
(aq) ? Cu2+
(aq) + 2Ag(s)
(c) Calculate the emf for the following reaction:
Mn3+ + Fe2+ ? Mn2+ + Fe3+
Given, Mn3+ + e? ? Mn2+
; E
0 = 1.5 V and Fe3++ e? ? Fe2+
; E
